To bequeath a sustainable ecosystem for future generation, the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) has called for the passage of Institute of Environmental Practitioners of Nigeria bill that is expected to professionalise and govern environmental practice in the country. “A healthy environment creates wealth and a healthy populace. “With the passage of the bill, environmentalists would have the backing and recognition currently lacking in their practice. Only professionals with expertise and commitment would be recognised to carry out environmental work in Nigeria,” she said. Amid the challenges posed by climate, flooding, pollution and indiscriminate wastes dumping in the country, she reiterated the need for government to ensure a healthy environment.
